Age Concern Kingston upon Thames is an independent, local charity.

The organisation is a member of Age Concern, the Federation, and is required to adhere to Age Concern national quality standards.

We were formed in 1999, following the merger of Age Concern Kingston and Malden and Coombe Older People's Welfare Association, both of which had a long history of service provision within the Borough.

Our mission is:

To be an effective organisation that is recognised as a leader, committed to involving and empowering all older people in Kingston upon Thames.

Our aim is to enable the estimated 26,000 people over the age of 60 in the Borough of Kingston upon Thames to:

  • live with independence and dignity
  • decide the direction of their own lives
  • enjoy life as part of the community

We also work to:

  • influence local policy and practice
  • create a greater understanding of the needs of older people and their potential to contribute to community life.

Age Concern Kingston also works in innovative ways with children through our intergenerational work .

Age Concern - where quality counts

Age Concerns are providers of a wide range of services for older people. Age Concerns in England belong to a federation.  Part of the commitment that each Age Concern makes when joining the federation is to demonstrate the quality of the services it provides.  We do this through Quality Counts, the Age Concern specific quality assurance system.

What is Quality Counts?

The system is designed to demonstrate that Age Concerns are working to England-wide standards that are focussed on making sure that older people can influence, receive and contribute to the services provided for them. Quality Counts shows how Age Concerns are providing quality services through their work in each of the following areas:

  • Involving Older People

  • Diversity and Equality

  • Volunteering

  • Governance and Management

  • Information and Advice

  • Service Provision and Campaigning

  • Partnerships

Age Concern Kingston upon Thames achieved its Quality Counts Award in 2006.

Adding Value

The Charity Commission has endorsed Quality Counts as being 'compatible with the requirements in "Hallmarks of an Effective Charity' (CC60) and having an element of independent verification of meeting those standards."  Only three other quality systems have achieved this endorsement to date.
