Experts say that taking just thirty minutes
of moderate intensity activity,
three times a week, will make you
feel better!
|
|
| Most people are
not active enough.
Not enough people take sufficient exercise, and
as age increases, activity levels decrease. A survey conducted by
Sports England found that in Kingston only 17% of those aged over
45 were sufficiently active.
The new Active Living Project aims to encourage
people to take more exercise.

|
|
| What kind of exercise
should I do?
This can be done in a variety of ways, whether
walking, cycling, or swimming, taking the stairs not the lift, or
even getting more active with the housework or gardening.
There are a huge variety of sports and recreational
activities available across the Borough to suit all tastes, ages
and abilities, ranging from bowls to Tai Chi.

|
|
| So how do I get
started, and keep at it?
To help you, we have compiled a Directory of sports,
exercise and recreational activities for the over 45s across Kingston
(including our own centres, Raleigh and Bradbury).
The Directory lists over 30 activities; offers
about six choices per activity and provides addresses and contact
details for each.

|
| I've tried to exercise
before, but I lose motivation. Any suggestions?
Having taken the first step, we recognise the
importance of keeping motivated, and have therefore introduced a
Passport scheme to give you an incentive and support.
Each time you take exercise, your passport
will be stamped, and you will be rewarded with a range of prizes
on your journey to fitness.
